Blood and blood products

Blood and blood components, such as erythrocytes and plasma, are utilized to minimize blood loss during surgical procedures or in cases of severe blood loss caused by trauma.

We establish stringent standards for the quality and safety of blood and blood components.

Only blood banks that are regularly supervised by the Danish Patient Safety Authority are permitted to collect blood and process blood components.

SoHO regulation

From 7 August 2027, a new EU regulation on substances of human origin (SoHO) will apply to all activities and facilities involving SoHO intended for human application.

The SoHO regulation will replace the current directives on blood, tissue and cells. It is directly applicable throughout the EU.

In Denmark, the Danish Patient Safety Authority is the national SoHO authority and competent Soho authority.
