Permission to work independently

You may apply for Danish authorisation and permission to work independently as a dentist at the earliest 14 days before successful completion of your employment for adaptation and training purposes (evalueringsansættelse). The fee for permission to work independently as a dentist is DKK 1,206.

Once you have been registered with a permission to work independently as a dentist, you may open your own clinic.

The public online register of healthcare professionals

As a registered health professional, you will be on the list of registered health professionals in our public online register of healthcare professionals. 

Specialist training and registration

Having been issued with Danish authorisation and permission to work independently as a dentist, you may apply for specialist training in one of two (2) specialties: Oral Surgery and Orthodontics.

If you have completed specialist training outside Denmark, you can apply the Danish Patient Safety Authority for an assessment of your completed specialist training.

75 years rule

The entitlement to practice as a dentist expires at the age of 75. For more information, see 75-years-rule.

General

All information of importance to the assessment of your application for permission to work independently will be processed electronically by the Danish Patient Safety Authority, and if required by professional advisers. Information about name, address, civil registration number, nationality, case number, country of training, educational institution as well as examination and registration dates will be registered in the online register of the Danish Patient Safety Authority and will be used for identification of the case, the assessment and statistical purposes.
