Ships with persons on board suspected of being infected with a generally dangerous or socially critical disease, including covid-19

There must be no free contact with persons ashore until the Danish Patient Safety Authority has granted permission for free contact if there are persons on board a ship who suffer from a generally dangerous or socially critical illness, or who are presumed to be infected with such, or when there are other conditions on board that involve the risk of spreading generally dangerous or socially critical diseases. The Agency will inform the local police in the port of arrival of the Authority's decision.

The ship's captain, his agent or possibly the ship's medical doctor must notify the Danish Patient Safety Authority if there are persons on board the ship who suffer or are suspected of suffering from a generally dangerous or socially critical illness.

Within normal office hours, the authority can be contacted on telephone number +45 7228 6600. Outside normal office hours, the authority's medical staff can be contacted on the following telephone numbers:

  • The port of arrival is located east of the Great Belt: +45 7022 0268
  • The port of arrival is located west of the Great Belt: +45 7022 0269
